President Clinton's 20th Anniversary Celebration

Jones Film Video was proud to be a part of President Clinton's 20th Anniversary of his announcement to run for President. In honor of the occasion, we cut together a video that played before his introduction at the Old State House museum in Little Rock. In this photo, courtesy of the William J. Clinton Foundation, you can see the President and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as they watch the video before coming out to meet the crowds of people gathered. The video pulls from archival footage provided by KATV from the day of the announcement in 1991, along with historical footage from the Clinton Foundation, and others.
The event was a big success, and we were thrilled to play a small part.

Shooting the ARRI ALEXA at Oaklawn

This past Saturday, March 18th, was Rebel Stakes race day–the second race of the Arkansas Derby Series at Oaklawn in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The day started out a bit overcast, but it turned out to be a beautiful day to be at the track. Jones Film Video's Chris Cranford shot footage throughout the day on the new ARRI ALEXA digital cinema camera with a 250mm Cooke zoom lens. The highlights from throughout the day can be viewed in the HD video hosted on our Vimeo page, including The Factor's victorious running of the Rebel Stakes.

Jones Film Video's 30th Anniversary

Jones Film Video opened its doors on February 1, 1981 with Gary Jones, Marlene Lamar, and Sean Harper working out of the Leake Building behind Channel 7. Later that year, Jones Television Productions (as we were first known) moved to 517 Chester (shown in 1981 photo below), where Jones Film Video still maintains a studio and production kitchen set, and three HD editing suites.

Fall Color Alert

The leaves are finally turning, so the Jones Film Video crew has been scrambling across the state to capture multiple locations at "peak color" on 35mm film and HD digital video. Here are two pictures of the crew--one in Gulpha Gorge in Hot Springs, and the other in the middle of the Spring River near Hardy.

Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival

"Dirty Work: Arkansas' Knife Heritage from Bowie to Rambo" -- which Jones Film Video produced for the Historic Arkansas Museum -- will screen twice during the 19th Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival this October in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The 30 minute film was shot and edited by Chris Cranford, and features interviews with several influential knife makers and historians including A.G. Russell, Bill Worthen, Jerry Fisk, Bob Dozier, and Marilyn Lile.

Over the Summer, Jones Film Video shot a three spot campaign featuring real people talking about the effects of smoking in the workplace. Recently, the website designed by CJRW went live at cleartheairarkansas.com, but the spots can also be viewed on our Vimeo page. The spots all feature a custom music track by Jason Weinheimer at Sellout Music.

Canoe Trip on the Mississippi River

Jones Film Video recently shot a canoe trip on the Mississippi River for Arkansas Parks & Tourism with the Quapaw Canoe Company out of Helena-West Helena. Starting with an early 4:30 am departure time, we took three long canoes down the St. Francis River into the mighty Mississippi River, stopped for a delicious breakfast on a sandbar in the middle of the river, then paddled back to Helena-West Helena. This also afforded us the chance to use our custom-built canoe jib–ask for it by name!

Gary Jones and Amy Sandefur ride the "Hitchcock" crane, so named as it was specially built at Universal Studios for the cinematic master, Alfred Hitchcock. Jones Film Video used this special crane to shoot a new commercial for the Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office's "Click it or Ticket" campaign.

Cajun's Deck

Filming for Arkansas Parks and Tourism's 2010 campaign continued with an afternoon shoot on the deck at Cajun's Wharf in Little Rock. It was a gorgeous day, a tad on the warm side. We shot 35mm film (for an HD transfer) of people enjoying themselves looking out on the Arkansas River while the Arkansas Queen passes by in the background.

In recent focus groups it was determined that potential visitors really liked waterfalls, so, we found a nice one up outside of Jasper. It was a beautiful location in the Natural State.

Jones Film Video recently shot a commercial for Arkansans for the Secret Ballot and CJRW. The spot illustrates what could happen if the Employee Free Choice Act is passed. For the spot, we pulled out all the tools in our production arsenal, including our 27 foot Javelin Crane and our Movie Tech Magnum dolly. In post-production, Tyler Cobb seamlessly duplicated extras, removed cars, and painted out logos and satellite dishes.

Jones Film Video shot a new TV spot for the City of Little Rock's Recycling program. The idea was a family basically moves the breakfast table out into the street to be closer to their Recycling bin. But a neighbor points out the error of their ways.

The team at Jones shot a new Stamp Out Smoking Campaign for CJRW. The idea was showing several situations where people found items such as food, clothing, or even their car replaced by cigarette packs--representing just how much they were spending, and what they were giving up, by smoking. While the Tornado sirens were going off in Little Rock last week, the team from Jones Productions and Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods spent an enjoyable day in Hot Springs with Country music star Tracy Byrd. Best known to fans for his songs "I'm from the Country", "Keeper of the Stars", "Watermelon Crawl", and "Ten Rounds with Jose Cuervo", Byrd has been hired by the Hot Springs Convention and Visitor's Bureau to promote Hot Springs as a vacation destination. A new TV campaign will feature Byrd in several Hot Springs locations talking about what he likes to do when he visits the Spa City. Above, Tracy gets ready to chow down on a delicious steak at The Portherhouse restaurant on Central Avenue. Below, the crew from Jones and CJRW pose with Tracy Byrd for the blog.

Jones Productions spent the day in Hot Springs a couple of weeks ago shooting new TV commercials for Magic Springs and CJRW. The concept is about having a theme park in your own backyard, so, three different sets were built in front of major attractions at the park. The camera started on the set and then moved through the window to reveal the park outside.

Digital Signage Expo 2008

In February, I attended the Digital Signage Expo in Las Vegas. DSE 2008 exceeded everyone's expectations with record attendance and loads of new technology. As a first timer to Vegas and DSE, there was a lot to take in over the three day conference. My goal was to gain a further understanding of how today's digital signage content works from creation to distribution. In the past, Jones Productions has created content for signage applications including: in-room video for hotels, in-store video for restaurants and stores, and visitor centers. The distribution of this content was typically a disc sent through the mail (sneakernet). Today's standard of distribution utilizes a secure file transfer which may immediately update, making it more efficient and dynamic. Complex digital signage network function similar to a computer network, as a piece of content can be sent from a centralized location out to any node or groups of nodes. I'll be focusing on content creation and optimization as this rapidly growing industry continues to evolve. The link below is a flash document to help further explain the content of digital signage.

Jones Team Wins 48-Hour Film Fest

Over the Summer, the Amalgamated Motion Pictures team--which included Jones Productions members Chris Cranford, Tyler Cobb, and Les Galusha--took home the top prize in the Little Rock 48-Hour Film Festival. The team's film Knoon Time won Best Film, Best Directing, Best Use of Characater, and an Audience Award. You can view a quicktime of it here.
This allowed the team to compete in a national competition a few months later which had far more crazy restrictions, but the fruits of which you can view here. All we can say is it was fast, it was fun.

The Newest Member of the Family

After spending over a month in the NICU at Baptist Hospital, baby Cross Galusha was welcomed home on July 6th. He was born almost 3 months premature on May 27th, at 3 pounds 4 ounces and 15 1/4 inches long. Parents Les and Charlotte are thrilled to welcome him to the nursery that daddy designed and to finally introduce him to the rest of the family and friends. On June 21, 2007, Jones Productions and the team from CJRW traveled up to wine country--Arkansas wine country. It was a pleasant day in the beautiful vineyards of Chateau Aux Arc, however it was difficult to keep from sampling the winery's product. Guess we'll just have to make a return trip.
